The traditional gauze compress can be used excellently for cleaning and covering dry or slightly oozing wounds due to its rapid absorption and smear resistance. Even if the gauze compress is impregnated with a liquid for wound cleaning, it retains its firm, tensile structure. If smear resistance of the compress is important, the gauze compress is preferable to a non-woven compress.
